We’ve had these four frames hanging in the guest bathroom for 3 years now and before that I had them for about 2 years. Not bad for a dollar store find. I got these cute little frames at The Dollar Tree and the sea themed old calendar art actually had a previous life. I love using old calendars for art, you get to look at something you love for a whole year and then you hang it up and enjoy it some more.
I really liked them, but the thing that bothered me was the black frames, they just didn’t fit in to the new bathroom decor. Besides that, I also wanted to glam the old calendar art up a bit.
The guest bathroom, like every other room in the house, is a work in progress. When I first moved in with my hubby, the bathroom was a teal mixed with dark blue and white. It created a horizontal pattern on the wall. A kinda wave-like effect. I would have liked to have kept it, but when we removed the huge medicine cabinet above the sink there was a different color on the wall behind. There was no way of recreating the pattern so sadly we had to paint over it.
So far in this bath we’ve made a few small improvements:
Painted the walls – lightened things up a bit.
Changed the hardware on the vanity - we don’t plan on changing the cabinet for now, unless we find something great at a thrift store.
Changed out the medicine cabinet for a mirror that I’ve had for more years than I can remember.
Removed the old hollywood dressing room style lights for something a little more modern. I’ll be painting those soon.
We also recently changed out the old ugly faucets for new ones.

So, back to the old calendar art revamp. I painted the frames white with some left over gloss spray paint I had. And I then painted the mats with Krylon brushed metallic spray paint in Nickel. It was not easy to find, they didn’t have it at Lowes or Home Depot. I finally found it at Sherman Williams.
I am so loving this paint, I’ve already got a list of stuff I want to paint with it.
If you can’t find it you could also get it on Amazon: Krylon Brushed Metallic Satin Nickel
It gives the old calendar art a little bling without going overboard. And I like the fact that it now matches the new faucets perfectly.

Now that I see this picture I’m realizing the curtain is not quite right. It’s not really going with the nautical theme. So I’m thinking it will probably be relocated to the master bath once I find a replacement here.
Well the bathroom is coming right along, now that we gave new life to our old calendar art, you can see what else we’ve got planned, here.

Glad you stopped by Justine!
Very cool art–they look like high end pieces. Thanks for linking up!
Thanks Becky! And thanks for hosting!
Thanks so much for linking up last week at Sunday Blog Love. I really like that you reused an old calendar with the dollar store frames, inexpensive decorating is so much fun. I hope you can come back again this weekend and share another project!
Yes I definitely will!
