Now that your soil is amended and ready, there are just a few more things to do before adding your plants. Believe me if you do these things before planting it will save you time and you won’t have to tear up your garden later.
I was watching a home improvement show not too long ago on HGTV. The host/house flipper had just finished planting a rather large garden with mulch and everything when he realized he had forgotten to install the outdoor lighting. They had to dig trenches all over the garden put in the electrical lines, bury the lines, replant the affected plants and re-mulch. It was actually a little painful to watch.
So this doesn’t happen to you, It’s best to determine what you want to have in your small garden before planting.
Here are a few things to consider:
1. Irrigation System:
What kind of irrigation system, if any, do you want? Watering by hand, sprinkler or drip irrigation
2. Weed control
Are you going to use some type of weed control: Landscape liner, newspaper or mulch
3. Outdoor lighting
What type of outdoor lighting are you going to install? Electric or Solar
Are you going to create a path or use borders?
All these things should be considered and laid out before any planting begins. I’ll be going into details about each of these in upcoming posts, so keep an eye out.
