The most wonderful part of the seasonal transition from winter to spring, is the fact you can once again clear up your garden, and prepare it for the summer ahead. Generally we all know the basics when clearing up after a long winter; trim the hedges and grass, sweep the patio etc. What others things should you do during your down time from playing on Binguez though?
Soil – The soil in your garden has been untended for the winter months, so it needs preparation for the spring and summer. Loosen it with a fork, and then check its condition. Is it suitable to grow herbs, fruits and vegetables in? You should also check that your soil drains well, otherwise the plants will get waterlogged when you water them.
Space – Make sure that your plants have enough space to grow. The seed packets for plants give you an idea of how much room they need. Follow those guidelines. How many plants you intend to grow this year, should factor into your decision about which plants should grow where.
Sun – You ought to check out how much sun your garden tends to get every day. Pay attention to how often the sun hits your garden, and from what angle. Then you’ll know which flowers you should plant and where.
Seasons – Make sure you are aware of which seasons you are supposed to plant in. For example, you wouldn’t plant a winter garden during the spring. It would be too late. Check the labels, or ask for help if you are unsure on the matter.
Colours – When planting flowers, you should keep an eye on which colours go with which, so your display in plant pots and hanging baskets is aesthetically pleasing. Try not to plant too many of the same flower in the same pot, otherwise it’ll be very samey.
