I love map art, as you can probably tell from my other projects here and here. I’ve seen lots of diy heart map art around Pinterest and had been dying to make some. I had a friend’s birthday coming up so I decided to make a couple for her.
DIY Heart Map Art
Supplies:
Frame
Heavy weight paper
Map of city of your choice
Spray adhesive
Heart outline
*I used a square shadowbox type frame I got at Joann Fabric’s.
I drew a heart and printed it out on 20lb paper. It’s heavy like card stock and you can get it at any office supply store. I got mine (a 500 sheet set) at Office Depot, which I’m actually running low on since I’v used it on a ton of projects.
Instructions:
You can print this heart outline out here. It should print out to around 5″x4.5″ and centered on a 8.5×11 sheet. But do a test print on a regular sheet of paper first, just in case I screwed something up :). Or insert it into Word as a picture and edit the size depending on your frame size.
Measure the opening of the frame and cut the heart outline printout sheet to size, with the heart centered. Then just cut out the heart opening.
Cut a square piece of map larger than your heart outline. Spray the glue onto the back of the heart outline cut-out sheet and stick the map to it.
Take the cardboard piece that comes with the frame and spray glue that to the back of the map and cutout. That way it will look more finished on the back.
My friend lived in New York and Washington D.C. for work a while back and is now living in Miami. She really enjoyed her time in both cities, so I thought this was a perfect way to remind her of it.
I made one of N.Y. and one of D.C.
Update: I gave them to her last night and she loved them so much that she asked me to make one of Spain (where she was born) and Miami (where she was raised) for her next birthday.

DIY Idea: Places You ‘Heart’ Map Art

I love this! Simple, easy gift yet personable and memorable =)
Visiting from Shabby Creek
You can personalize it with any place that is special to the person for whatever reason.
These are so pretty! I love how clean and simple they look, I’m so glad she liked them!
Thank you Melanie. I thought about the name of the place to each, but thought this way it’s more fun. Whoever looks at it can discover what it is.
Wonderful post!
Thank you for the heart template!
All the best,
Mary

Thanks Mary, hope it works
Super cute! I’m crushing on maps right now. Might need to find some way to put this in my home.
I love them too, but I’m trying not to go overboard and put them everywhere, which I easily could.
So sweet and simple. Thanks for linking up to Beyond the Picket Fence.
What a sweet project.
Oooh I love this idea!! I found you on the Sundae Scoop, and I’m a new follower of yours! I have also seen some map projects and really loved them, but your idea of making them heart shaped is really super adorable. Love! Thanks for sharing!
Of course she loved them. They are adorable.

Thanks for the invite Dawn, I will.
What a brilliant idea. I’ve been looking for ideas for our hall and I think map hearts would go great with our holiday photos. Thank you so much. Ali x
That would look nice, holiday pics along with maps of the places. Hmmm I might just borrow your idea. If I ever get to creating the hallway gallery wall.
Thanks for joining the WNWNW party over at http://prettyshabbyuk.blogspot.co.uk look forward to seeing you next week.
Hi Jacky. I’ve got my maps, my heart shape and my frame ready to do this exact project! I was just wondering if you cut around the map in a heart shape, or if you cut a heart out of the piece of card and have a square of map behind. It wasn’t 100% clear in your description.
Thanks,
Lucy
Hi Lucy. How fun, that’s one of my favorite projects.
I cut out the heart shape from the cardstock and placed the square map behind it. I wanted the cardstock to act like a mat with the map underneath. I cut a square piece of map that was large enough so when I placed it behind the heart opening I could move it around until I liked how it looked. I also glued an entire piece of cardstock to the back to hide the cut piece of map. It will look more finished like that.
Hope that helps, if you have any other questions let me know.
